Products : Wi-Fi eXchange

Massive increases in mobile data traffic have compelled mobile network, operators to quickly leverage all available options to supplement capacity, especially unlicensed Wi-Fi spectrum. Major operators have publicly embraced Wi-Fi, but they have yet to implement the integration that would make Wi-Fi an extension of their networks. This consumer or ad hoc Wi-Fi offload offers congestion relief, but encourages users to choose Wi-Fi over cellular, distancing them from the mobile operator.

Stoke Wi-Fi eXchange offers Commercial Wi-Fi Offload that enables congestion relief and gives subscribers access to all the services, security and standards they receive over cellular networks, effectively extending the operator’s services delivery and revenue generating capabilities to Wi-Fi.

The Stoke Wi-Fi Exchange is a high performance, standards-based platform and can be quickly deployed into existing 3G or LTE networks. With the Wi-Fi Exchange, operators can safely and automatically authenticate Wi-Fi subscribers and securely link them to their services network. Stoke's Wi-Fi Exchange offers high-density secure session termination of Wi-Fi connections outside the operator core. The platform provides operators maximum flexibility in integrating Wi-Fi traffic with the operator network.

Deployment Options

  • 3GPP Wireless LAN Interworking
Wi-Fi Exchange delivers Commercial Wi-Fi Offload, supporting standard IWLAN (Wireless LAN Interworking) mobile core interfacea and clients on mobile devices. In this solution, the IPSec, APN, and IP Management functions reside on the mobile device and interwork with the mobile core network. Both Packet Data Gateway (PDG) and Tunnel Termination Gateway (TTG) modes are supported in this deployment option.

  • Clientless Interworking
The clientless interworking solution moves critical, but resource intensive, IWLAN functions from a mobile device into the operator network, eliminating the demands on smaller device processors and batteries. With this innovative approach, the MNO can gain all the interworking advantages of IWLAN, but be freed from the complexity and time requirements of deploying client software on multiple device models and OS. Both Packet Data Gateway (PDG) and Tunnel Termination Gateway (TTG) modes are supported in this deployment option.
